Welcome to the Serving Sand Guest Guide
How do I enter Serving Sand?
We have an electronic door entry system. We will send you a code within 48 hours of your check-in. You will be able to use that same code for the duration of your stay. The door will automatically lock within 30 seconds of closing. If you do not close the door within the 30 seconds the deadbolt will come out, you will need to manually turn the dead bolt and then close the door. It will automatically lock again. The front door can stick in the beach air and humidity, so you might need to push hard after hearing the deadbolt unlock. You will get the hang of it quickly :)
Do you have any recommendations for our time at Serving Sand?
We sure do! We love Sea Colony and Bethany Beach. We've been vacationing here for 20+ years prior to purchasing Serving Sand and we've put together a list of our recommendations. Click here to check them out. Also, make sure to check out all that is happening during your time at Sea Colony. Click here for Sea Colony calendars and schedules. There is a Sea Colony app as well as many Sea Colony Facebook groups that provide valuable information for your stay. We encourage you to download the app and/or join the Facebook groups before your stay to have the most up-to-date information.
How do we use the TVs?
All our TVs have a Roku so you can log into any of your personal streaming accounts as a guest. When you add your check out date, it will automatically log out of all your accounts the day of check out. The family room, primary bedroom and front bedroom also have Comcast Xfinity Boxes to use. The remotes are labeled with the room they go to, so please make sure you have the correct remote.
Why isn’t the water hot?
When showering, please turn on the exhaust fans in the bathroom. If you fill the jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom, it will take a lot of the hot water so plan accordingly if others plan to shower after. Also, even with the largest hot water tank, hot water can run low if everyone in your party showers one after the other, so plan accordingly for nights out after the beach or early mornings.
Why aren’t the lights/fans working?
All the overhead fans/lights are also controlled with a remote on the wall near the switch. You can use that remote to control the fan speed or turn the light on and off as well as the switch. Please check the remote if the switch is not working. There are batteries in the downstairs hall closet if the remote is not working. Please make sure to replace all remotes on the wall if removed. Each remote is labeled with the corresponding room, so please make sure the remote is in the right room.
All the lamps downstairs are plugged into the same outlet that is controlled by the one light switch. If the lamps are not working, make sure the switch is on and that they are plugged in and the switches on the lamp are turned on as well.
The two lamps in the loft are also plugged into an outlet that is controlled by a light switch at the top of the stairs. Make sure the switch is on and that they are plugged in and the switches on the lamp are turned on as well. ***The switch at the top of the stairs will need to stay on if you are using the chargers at the base of those lamps through the night.
The master bedroom and front bedroom each have a lamp on the closest night stand that is plugged into an outlet controlled by the light switch inside the bedroom door. If the lamps are not working, make sure the switch is on and that they are plugged in and the switches on the lamp are turned on as well.
The master bedroom and front bedroom each have nightstands with chargers and outlets at the back of them.
There is a switch to turn on the fireplace behind the tv in the family room. Please don’t forget to turn it off when leaving the house.
Where should we park?
You will get two parking passes when you purchase your badges from the Sea Colony Beach. You may park one vehicle in the driveway in front of the garage, and there are many other spots on a first come first serve basis down LakeShore Drive. We ask that you do not park in the garage. There are many items stored in there.

Any helpful tips for the home?
- It tends to get much warmer upstairs than downstairs, so plan the thermostat accordingly, especially for sleeping.
- Toilet paper holders swing up for changing toilet paper.
- Any coffee/tea supplies are stored in the cupboard beside the refrigerator.
- There is a garage door opener in the small basket on the entry table by the front door. Feel free to use that for easy entry to and from beach. Please don’t forget to remove from your beach bag/car and place in the basket before you leave.
- There are motion sensored lights under the two primary bedroom beds for middle of the night bathroom trips. They are attached with magnets, if one falls off you can simply place back on magnet.
- There are kids books in the basket under the end table, adult books in the hutch, games, cards and puzzles in the coffee table. There is a bin of toys in the garage, as well as beach chairs, toys and more. We are happy for you to use these items, and ask that you return them to their location before you leave.
- Please use the make up wipes in your Serving Sand Welcome Tote to avoid staining the bath towels.
